Egypt (A) begins defending its title against Kuwait
Today, Monday, the Arab women's basketball championship for women's basketball will start in Cairo with the participation of Egypt A and B, Algeria, Kuwait and Morocco, provided that the results of the Egyptian team B, whose presence will be in the tournament for the sake of friction in preparation for its participation in the World Championship, will not be counted. The fourth and second with the third to determine the two teams that advance to the final, which will be held on July 10. In the first round the teams of Algeria and Egypt B will meet, starting at 4:00 pm local time, 5:00 UAE time, followed by Egypt A with Kuwait at 6:30. Yesterday evening, a technical meeting was held at the teams’ residence.

The tournament was launched for the first time in Jordan in 1983, and Iraq won the title. Then the second tournament, which was scheduled for Egypt in 1986, was canceled due to the incomplete number of teams. The tournament returned to Egypt after a year, and the Algerian team was crowned, followed by the Tunisian team, the champion of the fourth edition in 1989, then Egypt monopolized the title three times in a row in 1992, 1994 and 1997. Tunisia regained the title in the eighth tournament in 1999, followed by Algeria for the second time in the following year. The Lebanese national team was on a date with two consecutive titles in 2003 and 2011, while the Egyptian team was crowned champion of the last edition in 2017.
